Frequently Asked Questions

It can vary depending on the scope of the project, but generally after the initial consultation, and upon fabric selection, it’s a  3-4 week lead time inclusive of the making and fitting. This does not include the quotation for custom items and getting samples.

Once everything is approved and ordered, most projects take about 4 weeks before we are ready to install.

Yes! Feature Furnishings believes in complementing the aesthetic of the client. My goal is to bring to fruition the spaces you’ve been dreaming up with fabrics and treatments you love from design concept and bringing our elevated eye of Curtain styles for the overall project.

I will try to keep your wishes as a client and specific needs in mind when offering advice on fabric choices and treatments. We work very hard to create window treatments that we know you’ll love, the fabric selection and hardware choices may take time but the process is most crucial. Samples are sent to your home and we highly recommend that those samples are kept in the desired space at different times of the day, to get a sense of the light and how it affects the look of the fabric.

Customer satisfaction is very important to me, so from the initial consultation to the completion of your soft furnishing, you can be assured that the service you receive will be the best it can be. I am very proud of the work I produce and wouldn’t be happy supplying a client with soft furnishings I wouldn’t want myself.

My qualifications including a City & Guilds certificate in soft furnishings are a guarantee of the standard of my work and dedication. The Certificate was accomplished in 2017, with the British Academy of Interior Design.

I started the business in 2018  after spending many years making soft furnishings for a workroom five years prior.

Yes, we do. Once we have set up an initial phone call, we make a visit for measurements, and design specifications.

Unfortunately, we do not make eyelet curtains. But we can achieve a much more streamlined look with the wave curtains, where the curtains hang on corded gliders for an accordion look.

Your free home consultation is an opportunity to discuss your requirements and possible solutions. I have a number of books with design ideas and my knowledge of fabrics will help us decide on the best soft furnishings for your home.

Yes, I have a number of sample books and resources to source the right fabric for your requirements. My suppliers are mostly UK manufacturers who mill their fabric locally. I’m proud to be a supporter of such suppliers. Suppliers include, Prestigious Textiles, Warwick Fabrics, Evans Textiles, Iliv, Kai Fabrics to name a few.

Possibly, but it depends on what you would like. Smaller items like cushions and blinds can be posted however this method of delivery is not suitable for a large pair of curtains. Please contact me for more information.

Yes, most of my work is making curtains or blinds, however every now and then I am asked to make something different. Please contact me to discuss what you would like and hopefully I can help.

With the exception of bedding I do not recommend washing your soft furnishings. The fabrics layered together may react differently when washed; a regular vacuum to remove dust should be enough to keep them looking good. Washable cushion covers must be specifically requested before ordering so that I can ensure that you have chosen a suitable fabric.

Once the order has been taken and the fabric ordered there is little room for change. If possible I will try to make alterations to your order but there may be extra costs involved.

Once the quotation has been provided, there is a 10 day grace period where you can cancel/amend the order. Once the deposit has been paid, amendments are still possible. Once fabric and hardware has been ordered, a cancellation fee will be applied, based on the value of the order.

Our services are processed with a bank transfer in the form of a deposit at the time of quotation agreement, and then a BACS with the remainder balance upon completion of work from final fitting.

Yes! We have multiple lines that carry durable, pre-treated fabrics. These fabrics have advanced technology in stain resistance, durable construction, liquid repellency, odor resistance and UV and fade resistance. As a designer, it is our job to choose a fabric that best meet the client’s needs based on the space it will be used in.

The fabrics I use have a wide variety of finishes, my suppliers always recommend steaming these fabrics for longevity. Do not dry clean or wash them, this will shrink the fabric and ruin their properties. These are the best care instructions.

It is recommended that you do not wash your curtains. They may shrink (unevenly if lined). Vacuuming the curtains on a regular basis will help. If the pressure on the nozzle is too great put a sock over the end of the vacuum cleaner attachment. The washing instructions contained within the fabric information are supplied by the manufacturer and relate purely to the main fabric of the curtain. Washing as stated earlier can result in uneven shrinkage due to the different rates of shrinkage of the lining and interlining materials. If you decide to wash your curtains you do so at your own risk.

Sunlight will cause the fabric to fade over time. To reduce fading it is recommended that curtains are lined or interlined. In situations where there is a lot of sun, blackout lining may be more appropriate, especially in a bedroom.

Yes, all our curtains and roman blinds come with a standard polycotton lining and are weighted in the hem as standard practice. We offer a comprehensive range of linings to suit your needs.

Yes, we offer a curtain alteration service.

We certainly can. We can advise you on which fabric types, colours, curtain headers, poles and tracks would be best for a particular window, the look and feel you want to create, and your available budget. Ultimately the choice is down to your personal taste, but we can help you narrow down your options.

The most popular types of curtain headings are:

  • Tab Top: The curtain is topped off with regularly spaced loops (tabs) of fabric which are threaded onto a curtain pole, allowing the curtain to hang in soft folds. Light can enter through the tab tops, so not ideal if you want a dark room.
  • Pencil Pleats: A classic, neat curtain hanging solution where pencil pleat tape is applied to the top of the curtain, gathered to the required width, and hung using hooks on a curtain track or pole.
  • Pinch Pleats: Ideal for traditional-style curtains. Pinch pleats can be double, triple, goblet, single, and cartridge to name a few.
  • Wave top: a contemporary style with wave heading tape that has a selected glider calculation on a track/pole with corded gliders to give a wave/accordion look.

We make curtains of any size, style and out of any fabric. We have a large selection of nets and voiles from top suppliers to choose from to finish off your window dressing, let the light in and ensure your privacy. Net and voile curtains can be made with your choice of header, just as for regular curtains.

Yes, we have a vast range of metal and wooden poles and tracks from Silent Gliss rangers which are corded as well as uncorded. We offer the metropole wave range in an array of colours and styles.

Yes, we have a fitter that comes out to fit your requirements. Installation day involves the fitting of poles and the curtains themselves.

The fabrics I use have a wide variety of finishes, my suppliers always recommend steaming these fabrics for longevity. Do not dry clean or wash them, this will shrink the fabric and ruin their properties. These are the best care instructions.

We make our blinds lined, interlined, or black-out bonded depending on the finish you are after. We always recommend that blackout lining for all roman blinds as they block out the light and also add structure to the aesthetic of the blinds.

Yes, we offer the facility for the customer to take home fabric swatches with no deposit required.

Yes at any point in the bespoke process, you can order cushions to your specification.

Yes. There is a separate fitting fee. Before Fitting day, i will reach out to my clients to confirm you want me to fit the curtains/blinds with my expert curtain fitters. They charge a separate fee, and that rate is determined by the fitters themselves. We provide you with a separate quotation that is ideally paid to the fitter directly.

The cohesive process, including our supply, make and fit, should always save you money in the long run!

As well as the making cost, linings and fabric (if appropriate) your estimate includes delivery within the area and hanging of your soft furnishings. I am not VAT registered because this is a small business so the cost of goods purchased includes VAT which cannot be separated,  but the cost of my labour is VAT free. Track or pole fitting is separate, but itemised on the quotation.

Payments can be made by cash, cheque or bank transfer. A deposit of 50% will be required at confirmation of the order with the balance due upon delivery.

If you have a like for like written quote from a reputable supplier it can be matched.

For Interior designers or soft furnishings retailers I can offer trade prices, please contact me to discuss how we can work together.
